Performance

The new Kia Sorento goes toe-to-toe with the Pilot, edging it out 281 maximum horsepower to 280 hp. The Sorento also sports an 8-speed automatic transmission compared to the more traditional 6-speed design of the Pilot, so expect smoother acceleration in the Kia. There’s also an option for an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission for even greater performance.

Design

The 2021 Kia Sorento is shorter than the 2020 Honda Pilot in terms of both length and height and is also narrower with a tighter wheelbase and turning diameter, offering a more nimble driving experience. But despite the smaller exterior and standard third row seating, the Sorento still offers more overall passenger volume highlighted by increased front and second-row legroom.

Technology

Both vehicles are equipped with a lot of the latest technology, but only the Kia Sorento makes Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ standard, whereas the Honda Pilot requires an upgraded trim level to obtain these features.

Safety

The Sorento and the Pilot both score very well in safety, with each vehicle earning a 5-star overall mark. But only the Sorento achieved a 5-star rating for frontal barrier crash ratings for both driver and passenger.
